ETERNAL BREAD

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” —John 6:26-29

            Jesus had fed the thousands and when He went on the other side of the Sea of Galilee many followed Him. But there were not following Him because of the miracle He did, the sign He showed.   No, they were following Him because He provided food for them. They were focused on the temporal and not on the eternal. They were not seeking after Jesus because of Who He is, but because they had their stomachs filled and wanted Him to continue to do this for them.   They were looking at what they could get from Jesus and not to believe in Jesus for Who He is.

            Jesus plainly told them “Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”  Jesus is the Bread of Life and the food that He would give them was Himself.   “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).  Whoever calls on His Name shall be saved (Romans 10:13).

            Jesus said that “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” Have you?   This is not just believing about Jesus, but this is believing in Jesus. This is not just information about Him, but this is putting your trust in Him— that is faith. I can have all kinds of information about the footbridge in front of me, but the evidence of my faith in that foot bridge is when I step onto it to cross it. When I do that then that is evidence that I have put my faith in the bridge.

            So, are you just believing about Jesus or are you believing in Jesus? Do you just have information about Jesus or have you put your faith in Jesus? Your answer determines your destiny—- Heaven or Hell… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZw0dfLmLk&t=160s
