JESUS, THE KING OF ALL NATIONS!

JESUS, THE KING OF ALL NATIONS!

Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the LORD. And the LORD said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. —I Samuel 8:5-7

Who do we want to truly rule over us? Who or what will be our priority trust? From whose hand do we acknowledge our needs being met? Who is ruler of our lives? Are we willing to be ruled over? Is it our desire to be His servant? Are we seeking after His will or our own? Do we seek fulfillment in Him or in others and things?

The Lord was Israel’s King and they were to be His servants. Think about that! The Israelites had seen many wonders from their benevolent and righteous King. But… they wanted a king like the worldly nations around them. Samuel was displeased about their request and he spoke to the Lord about it. The Lord’s response was “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.”

Do we want our Lord Jesus to rule over us? Are we rebellious like Israel was? Do we want to be like the world and live under worldly rulers as our top priority?   Or, will we recognize King Jesus is to be our top priority, sovereign over all worldly leaders. He alone has our best interests in mind all the time.   No earthly ruler will compare to Him, but recognize they are His servants (Romans 13:1-7).

The people were warned as to what the earthly king would want. Samuel told them—

“This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them to his own chariots and horses, to run in front of his chariots. He will appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of fifties, and others to plow his ground, to reap his harvest, to make his weapons of war, and to equip his chariots. And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his servants.  He will take a tenth of your grain and grape harvest and give it to his officials and servants. And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and donkeys and put them to his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will beg for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you on that day. —I Samuel 811-18

Yet they still wanted a king!   Even with being told all these things that the earthly king would do, the people still desired to have an earthly king over them. How sad, but let us ask ourselves the question— “Who is truly ruling over us?”   If it is not King Jesus, then who is it?   Truly, there are only two kingdoms.   There is the kingdom of darkness ruled by the power of Satan and the Kingdom of light ruled by the power of God (Acts 26:18). Now… who do you want ruling over you? If it is not King Jesus then let it be known that you need to “come to (your) senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken (you) captive to his will” (II Timothy 2:26). Dear Father it is my desire to follow King Jesus and to serve Him. Oh may I do so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of my King— Jesus! May it be so.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aqo-adRyM_k
