GOD IS IN CONTROL!

GOD IS IN CONTROL

If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God— the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed. You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess. —Deuteronomy 28:58-63

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. —Galatians 6:7-10

Obedience brings blessing and life while disobedience brings curses and destruction. There are consequences to the way we live our lives as individuals and as nations. Do we think that God is never going to act? —- “Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation” (II Peter 3:4). There are those who think that is the case because “they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly” (II Peter 3:5-7).

God will act and does act today. As much as some people like to think that God does not bring about this fallen world’s difficulties as judgments such as disease, storms, earthquakes… well, God’s Word says otherwise. We see this all though God’s Word whether it was the ten plagues of Egypt that He brought or the judgments that are coming in Revelation sometime in the future. Even in Job we read that “He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love” (Job 37:13). Job understood there were different reasons for storms and one of them was judgment for correction.

One thing is for certain— the church will either be the church or cower into the shadows during this time of uncertainty with the corona virus? Here are some interesting thoughts “by Martin Luther. In 1527, Luther wrote the letter “Whether one may flee from a deadly plague” as the bubonic plague passed through Wittenberg.”   https://blogs.lcms.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Plague-blogLW.pdf   There are many great thoughts, challenging thoughts in his writing.

Dear Father I am so glad to know that You are in control and no virus or circumstance is beyond Your knowledge or plan. Please help me to serve however You desire me to during this time and for life in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son, Jesus.
