BE LIGHT AND WATER
This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless. —II Samuel 22:31-33
The God of Israel has spoken; the Rock of Israel has said to me: When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God, he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth. “For does not my house stand so with God? —II Samuel 23:3-5
How grateful I am to know the Lord’s ways are perfect even when I do not understand them. I am thankful that His Word proves true because His Word is always true. I am joyous to know that He is my refuge and that no one else is like Him. Yes, He is my strong refuge and I need to follow Him. He alone can make me blameless.
Those followers of His will seek to be like Him. They will live in the “fear of God” and desire to live for Him (Job 28:28; Proverbs 1:7; 8:13; 15:33; 16:6; II Corinthians 5:11). Then He will dawn on them like the morning light and with Him “is the fountain of life; in your light we see light” (Psalm 36:9). Those who follow Him will be the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14) even as He is “the light of the world” (John 8:12). Am I, are you being His light in this world? We are to be!
He will water us that we can be healthy and provide that health toward others. He is the “living water” provider. “Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life” (John 4:13-14). As Jesus offered this “living water” to the woman at the well, so we too can offer this “living water” to those around us that they also can have eternal life.
So, are you being light and water? He causes light to shine on us so we can be light. He causes water to water us that we can water others. This brings life. Are we bringing life to others? There are those who bring darkness and dearth and destruction and death. They do not reflect our Lord Jesus Christ, but the adversary who holds them in darkness. Dear Father, may Your light and water upon me pass on to enlighten and water others all for Your glory. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
