“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” —Joshua 1:7-9

Moses had died and not the Lord commissioned Joshua to take leadership of the nation.  Here’s what the Lord told Joshua.

  • Be strong and very courageous
  • Be careful to obey the Law given to you by Moses
  • Don’t turn to the right or left of the Law to be successful
  • Keep the Law on your lips
  • Meditate on the Law day and night
  • Be care to do everything written in the Law
  • Then you will be prosperous
  • Then you will be successful
  • Again, be strong
  • Again, be courageous
  • Do not be afraid
  • Do not be discouraged
  • I am with you wherever you go

As a follower of Jesus a person needs to have strength and courage.  They are not to fear or be discouraged.  To faithfully follow our Lord God Almighty one needs to be obedient to what He says in His Word, not turning to the right or left of it.  But the faithful follower is to keep their eyes directly ahead, meditating on His Word day and night, being obedient to what He says.  Then, only then, will one be strong in Him, have courage through Him, be prosperous through Him, be successful through Him, knowing that He is always with His faithful ones.

Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).  He also said, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” (John 14:21).  We are to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).  Jesus said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:6-6).  Be strong, take courage and be a faithful servant. So be it in Jesus our Lord. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow4OfW4DP9s
