PAUL’S AMBITION

PAUL’S AMBITION

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” —Romans 15:20-21

Paul’s ambition was to bring the good news to those who have never heard it. He wanted people who have not heard to understand who Jesus is. His desire was to tell them about Him. Do you and I have that desire as well? There are people all around us who have not been told about Jesus. They have not heard and understood. Will we go to them with the message?

Let’s look at Romans 10:14-15 from Paul’s heart.

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? (Paul’s desire was for them to believe). And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? (Paul’s desire was for them to hear). And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (Paul’s desire was to preach to them). And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? (Paul knew he was sent). As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Paul’s feet were beautiful).

Now, let’s take a look at this passage again.

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? (Is it my desire for them to believe?). And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? (Is it my desire for them to hear?). And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (Is it my desire to preach to them?). And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? (Is it my desire to be sent?). As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Will my feet be beautiful?).

What is your ambition?

Dear Father, may I bring this good news to all those You desire me to. May I boldly proclaim Your gospel as I should. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAg7rn7fH3Q
