They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” —Acts 1:10-11

Let us always remember that Jesus is going to return to this planet one day in the future just as these angels said. One of that last things Jesus said to His followers is “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). This is one of the major service assignments that Jesus gave us— we are to be witnesses.

We are going to see Jesus again and as His followers “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (II Corinthians 5:10). The Apostle Paul said that Jesus “will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God” (I Corinthians 4:5).

Let us not be just standing around looking into the sky. Instead let us be about the business He commanded us to be about with the right motives— loving God, loving people, being witnesses, making disciples and all that flows out of this. Yes, let us be faithful to the “race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:11-2). May this be so until we see Jesus.

Dear Father, please help me to be faithful to the race marked out for me, keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus. My Father, may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
