YOUR WORDS
YOUR WORDS
When (the king) takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel. —Deuteronomy 17:18-20
God’s directives for the king of Israel:
1- He was to write out for himself a copy of God’s law.
2- He was to copy God’s law from the Levitical priest’s copy
3- He was to keep the law of God with him
4- He was to read the law of God all the days of his life
5- He was to learn to revere the Lord his God
6- He was to carefully follow all the words of God’s law
7- He was not to consider himself better than anyone else
8- He was not to turn from the right or left of God’s law
9- His influence would be long lasting if he did these things
Actually, these directives to the king would be wisdom for anyone to follow! What God has to say to us needs to be central in our lives— top priority. To write out a copy of God’s Word would cause a person to really think about it— word by word. We also have the ability to keep God’s Word with us and should not take this for granted. Nor should we neglect reading His Word. It is through the reading of His Word that we learn to revere Him as we get to know Him better and better. But we are not only to read His Word, we are to apply what He has to say to us to everyday life. We also are not to think that we are better than anyone else. It is only by God’s grace we are what we are (I Corinthians 15:10). A lovingly obedient follower of Jesus will have a long lasting impact in this world! May you and I be that type of disciple.
Just imagine if we had leaders that kept these directives! Leaders at any level— national, state, town, schools, businesses… churches, families… individual! That would have an impact on culture… and eternity! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zaaiFp4RSM
Dear Father, may I be the person You desire me to be to bring honor and glory to Your Name. This is my desire and may it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
