SELLING SELF TO DO EVIL

“So, my enemy, you have found me!” Ahab exclaimed to Elijah. “Yes,” Elijah answered, “I have come because you have sold yourself to what is evil in the Lord’s sight.” —I Kings 21:20

Ahab had sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord. How did he sell himself? He sold himself to the worship of Baal. He was in satanic bondage to do evil in the sight of the Lord.

What do people sell themselves for to do evil in the Lord’s sight? Drugs, sex, power positions, relationships, money… There are people who would do evil in the Lord’s sight to attain these… sell themselves for these… even kill for these. How many times have people killed for drugs? How many times have people killed for sex? How many times have people killed for power positions? How many times have people killed for a relationship? How many times have people killed for money? Yes, there are people who sell themselves to do evil. They are not thinking right, trapped by “the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26).

And so it was with Ahab & Jezebel. When Jezebel found out that the king was pouting over Naboth’s unwillingness to sell Ahab his vineyard, she said she would get it for him. She had Naboth killed so the king could take possession of Naboth’s vineyard. These two had sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord. But the Lord says, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay” (Deuteronomy 32:35; Romans 12:19; Hebrews 10:30). Nobody is getting away with anything. Dear Father, thank You for knowing all things. You know those who have sold themselves to do evil in Your sight. I trust You to put all things right in Your time. I am grateful to know that You will take care of things and I can wait on you to do so according to Your plan. Help me to be faithful in what You have called me to be and do. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
