Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery. They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. That is why he broke them with hard labor; they fell, and no one was there to help them. “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains. Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron. —Psalm 107:10-16
Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. —II Timothy 2:25-26
There are those all around us imprisoned in chains of misery. It is one thing to be imprisoned and it is another to not even realize one is imprisoned. Then what is worse is when a person hears how to be set free from their spiritual imprisonment and they rebel against it and don’t want any part of the escape. They don’t want Jesus. They would rather stay in their imprisonment.
There are some of those in deepest darkness clasped in spiritual chains that hear the truth, call on Jesus to save them and escape the devil’s trap! They are released from being held captive by the devil. Satan is a slave driver. He not only imprisons his victims, but he also forces them to do his will. Jesus on the other hand invites people to Himself to willingly do his will. He does not force anyone to do His will.
This is a very important point. Satan drives people to do his will and Jesus invites people to do His will. Again, Satan is a slave driver to force people to do his will. Jesus became a slave to invite people to willingly do His will.
May we invite people to Jesus and escape the satanic prison they are being held captive in. Let us invite them to Jesus who only can set them free. Yes, may we do so!
Dear Father, please help me go to those who are being held captive by Satan. Thank You for giving Your followers the keys of the gospel that can set people free from Satan. Oh, may many be set free to follow You. May it be so in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
