VICTORIES WITH MANY OF FEWThe Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength. ‘Whoever is timid or afraid may leave this mountain and go home.’” So 22,000 of them went home, leaving only 10,000 who were willing to fight. But the Lord told Gideon, “There are still too many! Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream. The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” So Gideon collected the provisions and rams’ horns of the other warriors and sent them home. But he kept the 300 men with him. “Get up! For the Lord has given you victory over the Midianite hordes!” He divided the 300 men into three groups and gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay jar with a torch in it. —Judges 7:2-16

If you were seeking to accomplish a mighty task against tens of thousands that were in opposition to you, would you shrink your numbers to assure victory? Yet this is exactly what the Lord did in the case of Gideon against the Midianites.

You see, whether with many or few, the battle is still the Lord’s. He is the one who rises up and puts down (Proverbs 21:1). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp_PolBwjEw “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7). In the context above Gideon started out with 32,000 soldiers which was reduced to 10,000 and then finally wound up with 300 soldiers. 300 soldier out of 32,000. Now which would you want going into battle—the lesser or greater number?

Today, just remember whatever huge obstacle we think we are facing; it is not huge to the One we know. May we trust Him to work out what He desires as we cling to Him and talk with Him. May it be so!

Dear Father, I am grateful to know that You are always Sovereign and nothing escapes your notice. You are working through all things to bring about Your desired results. I am grateful to know this. May you be pleased to help me trust You as I walk through this day in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
