PLANT AND WATER

We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. For we are both God’s workers. —I Corinthians 3:5-9

We put some pumpkin plants in this year that were given to us. I transplanted them once before we put them in the ground. We broke the ground in five spots and put 3 plants in each spot. As I look out at them now there have all grown together to form on lush green pumpkin patch with some nice sized pumpkins hidden under the large leaves. Yes, we planted and watered, but there was no way we could make the plants grow. Only God can do that.

So it is with sharing the gospel. We can plant and water the seed of God’s Word, but we cannot make it grow in a person’s life. Only God can do that! But, we are to be planting and watering… Are we? Who are you sharing the gospel with and encouraging toward Jesus? God gave us this work to do. Whether we plant or water we are working together for the same purpose as God’s workers and He will reward us for the work. May we be faithful to plant or water today!

Dear Father, help me to be sensitive to those around me today and be about Your business of planting and/or watering. May it be so in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
