ONE THING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT

Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing… Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it and it will not be taken away from her.” —Luke 10:39, 40-42

He jumped right in on the project without listening to the details of how to do it. Then when he thought all was going well, he found out that he was missing a few details. He didn’t know how to proceed because he had not listened to the directions that were being given before he started the project.

Would you rather do something than taking the time to listen on how to do it? Are you one who would rather seek to live life rather than to listen on how to live life? Do you always have to be actively doing something or can you sit and be still? Does your value come from accomplishing something or do you see the value in contemplation?

In the context of the verses above, Martha was the one who welcomed Jesus into her home. Martha was also distracted by the dinner she was preparing and she thought it was unfair that Mary was just sitting there at Jesus’ feet listening to Him teach. Yet Jesus said that Mary discovered the one thing worth being concerned about. Have you found that one thing to be concerned about? Are you concerned about it?

Dear Father, please help me to take the time to sit at Jesus feet and not be distracted, worried or upset about things. May I keep in focus what is truly important according to Your values.
