OBEDIENTLY BAPTIZED

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” If you believe with all your heart, you may.” —Acts 8:36-37

If you believe with all your heart that the walking bridge will hold you, then you will cross the bridge. If you believe with all your heart that the plane will safely carry you, then you will fly on that plane. If you believe with all your heart that the car will get you from one place to another, then you will ride in that car.

If you believe with all your heart then you will follow the Lord in baptism. This was the case with the Ethiopian eunuch. He wanted to be obedient and so he followed the Lord in baptism and went on his way rejoicing (Acts 8:41). This is one of the first steps a new believer is to take. In Matthew 28:18-20 we read “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” So, a person becomes a disciple of Jesus by hearing the gospel as a first step, then they follow the Lord in baptism and then they learn to obey the Lord Jesus as we have.

Have you believed on the Lord Jesus with all your heart? Have you obediently followed Him in baptism? This is what the Lord Jesus has directed us to do as a testimony of what He has done in our life. Baptism, when we go under the water, symbolizes dying with Jesus (Galatians 2:20). Then, when we come up out of the water, symbolizes new life in Jesus (Ephesians 2:1-10). So, have you followed the Lord in baptism since you believed? Jesus calls you to!

Dear Father, when we trust the Lord Jesus may we follow the Lord obediently and be baptized. May we also have a rejoicing heart as the Ethiopian eunuch had!
