OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH

OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth is transformed and the mountains are toppled into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake in the surge. —Psalm 46:1-3

Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth.” —46:10

I was talking with a dear brother yesterday.  He and his wife are going through such a difficult time as they watch their daughter recuperate from a traumatic situation.  As we talked we discussed how there is no place else to turn except to our Lord God Almighty.  Who else can help through such hard times?  Yes, people can come along side us for comfort and encouragement, but it is the Lord that we ultimately need to go to and He is always there for us.  How thankful we are that He is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn-tofXF_Ko

We need not fear knowing that God is our refuge.  He is the one we go to for shelter in the storms of life.  He also is our strength because we have none of our own.  We may think we do, but we really do not.  He is our strength. Even “though the earth is transformed and the mountains are toppled into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake in the surge” we do not need to be fearful in our “refuge and strength.”  We are safe in Him who is over all and holds all thing together (Colossians 1:15-23).

Life in this fallen world has tribulations.  That is just a fact that Jesus told us would happen— “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).  But Jesus tells us to take heart or to be of courage.  Why?  It is because He has overcome the world and “everyone born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.  Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (I John 5:4-5).  Jesus is our refuge.

Dear brother and sister, are you going through a difficult time?  Take heart, be of courage because we are overcomers by our faith in Jesus.  Got that?  You are an overcomer in Jesus!  You are safe in Him!

Thank You dear Father that You are my refuge and strength.  I am so grateful for that because I would not want to go through life without You.  I do not know how I made it through life before You drew me to Jesus except by Your grace.  Out of gratitude may I live faithfully for Your glory in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  May it be so!
