One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying. —Acts 16:14
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ” (II Corinthians 4:6.
We put the seed of carrots, squash or flowers into the ground and we can stand there and tell it to grow, but it will not. We cannot make seeds to grow. God does that. We can plant and water, but God causes it to grow.
So it is with the Word of God. We can share the Word of God with people, plant and water it, but it is God who makes it grow (I Corinthians 3:5-8). He is the only One who can truly change a person’s “heart.” He only can do spiritual “open heart surgery.” Only He can cause His light to shine “into a person’s heart.” He only can cause the “seed of His Word” to sprout from a person’s heart.
Can we know whose heart is being opened by Him? Can we know whose heart He is shining His light into? Can we know which heart He will cause the seed of His Word sprout from? Yes, but it is only through sowing the seed of His Word that we will see over time the proof of the results of the “open heart, light entering the heart and seed sprouting from the heart will be seen. Are we faithfully sowing that these results may be seen?
Dear Father, may I sow the seed of Your Word faithfully and trust that You will open hearts, cause light to shine in them and sprout new life in Jesus. Be please to work through me to sow the seed in people’s hearts today. May it be so.
