THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD
THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. —Psalm 19:9-13
Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. —Psalm 119:133

God’s Word is the mirror that reflects who we are (James 1:22-25) and gives us light to walk the right path (Psalm 119:105) and do what is right (Matthew 7:24-27). To listen to God’s Word and apply it to one’s life will keep a person from having sin “rule over them.”
The Word of God “is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13). God’s Word speaks to our thought and attitudes. Now, as He speaks to us we are not only to listen, but we are to obey what He has told us. May we do so. To listen without application is self-deception.
Dear Father I thank You that You have given us the blueprint for life in Your Word. May I not only read, not only listen, but may I do what Your Word says. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
