SCRIPTURE DISTORTERS
SCRIPTURE DISTORTERS
He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. —II Peter 3:16
Let us be aware that God’s Word can be and is “distorted” by “ignorant and unstable people.” Some of Paul’s writing, Peter says, “contain some things that are hard to understand.” But it is not only these “hard things” in Scripture that they distort. They also do this with “other Scriptures, to their own destruction.”
Let us be wise and not distort God’s Word. Oh, that we would allow God’s Holy Spirit, “the Spirit of truth” to “guide (us) into all the truth” (John 16:13). This guidance has been promised to His followers down through the ages— “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8). But we are to do our “best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15). Yes, let us seek to be His followers “who correctly handles the word of truth.” May it be so because many people are being led to destruction by the “ignorant and unstable people” who are distorting what the Scriptures say. May we be wise as we proclaim God’s Word and be watchful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VokFYLIew4
Dear Father, help me to speak Your Word and not some distorted ideas of my own. Oh that I would cling to what You say. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
