TRUST HIM FULLY!
The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. —Genesis 39:2-3
Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me. —Matthew 12:30
Joseph… was favored by his dad, was loved more than his brothers and his dad gave him a special coat as a gift. His brothers hated him. Then Joseph had dreams which meant the whole family would be in submission to him. His brothers hated him all the more. Joseph’s brothers were jealous of him. They made plans to kill him. They threw him into an empty cistern. They decided to sell him to Ishmaelite traders. Joseph was taken to Egypt. His brothers deceived their father into believing Joseph was killed by a wild animal. Joseph was sold to the captain of the Pharaoh’s palace guard— Potiphar.
The Lord was with Joseph. He caused Joseph to succeed in everything he did. Potiphar noticed that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success. Potiphar was pleased. He made Joseph his personal attendant. He put Joseph in charge of everything he owned in his entire household. The Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household because of Joseph. His household ran smoothly. His crops flourished. His livestock flourished. Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned.
Potiphar’s wife began to look at Joseph lustfully. She told him to come and sleep with her. Joseph refused. He said Potiphar trusted with the entire household. He said she was married to Potiphar. He would not do this wicked thing. He said it would be a great sin against God. She pressured Joseph day after day. He continued to refuse. He avoided her as much as possible. One day she grabbed him when no one was around. She demanded he sleep with her. Joseph tore himself away. His cloak was left in her hand. She falsely accused Joseph of attempted rape.
Potiphar was furious when he heard his wife’s story. He threw Joseph in prison. The Lord was with Joseph. The Lord showed him His faithful love. The Lord gave him favor with the prison warden. The warden put Joseph in charge of the prisoners. The warden put Joseph in charge of everything that happened in the prison. The warden had no worries. Joseph took care of everything. The Lord caused Joseph to succeed in everything he did. Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh’s cup-bearer and baker. The dreams came to pass. Joseph is remembered before Pharaoh by the cup-bearer. Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dreams. He is elevated to second in command of all Egypt. His family comes for food during the famine. His brothers bow to Joseph not knowing he is their brother. Joseph reveals himself. The brothers are fearful. Joseph is forgiving. Joseph’s father and whole clan come to Egypt to live. Joseph sustains them.
