CROSSING THE LINE TO JUDGMENT

“Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How terrible it will be when all four of these dreadful punishments fall upon Jerusalem—war, famine, wild animals, and disease—destroying all her people and animals. —Ezekiel 14:21

You will understand that these things are not being done to Israel without cause. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken! —Ezekiel 14:23

Judgment from the Lord comes in a variety of ways. The verse above gives us four of them: war— He brings a nation or nations against another nation; famine— He causes crops to fail and food shortages; wild animals— He can increase their number to endanger human populations; disease— He can bring new diseases or old ones to decimate nations. Yes, judgment comes in a variety of ways from the hand of the Lord.

The Sovereign Lord brings about these judgments upon a nation for good reason according to His plan and purposes. It would be wise for a nation to practice righteousness (Proverbs 14:34) because a time of judgment will come when a nation’s sin has “reached its full measure” and then judgment will come (Genesis 15:16). The U.S. and all other nations need to repent or they will cross a line the Sovereign Lord has determined and judgment will fall. We can be absolutely sure of that!
