YOUR DEBT HAS BEEN PAID— WILL YOU ACCEPT THE GIFT?

God paid a high price for you, so don’t be enslaved by the world. —I Corinthians 7:23

Carl was a slave to sin and there was nothing he could do about it. Satan had ensnared him and was holding Carl captive to do his will (II Timothy 2:26). On occasion Carl’s conscience would bother him about the sinful things he was involved in, but most of the time he enjoyed the pleasures of sin. But then Carl found the answer to his captivity. There was a way out…

Sin can be pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:25), but it is short lived. Even if a person enjoys a sinful life for his whole existence of this life, what is 100 years compared to eternity? What profit would there be in enjoying all the sinful pleasures of this world just to forfeit your soul in Hell? (Mark 8:36).

The Lord God Almighty paid a high price so you could be set free from the power of sin, Satan and death. This tremendous price was paid to enable us to be transferred from the imprisonment in the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of Jesus (Colossians 1:13)— “from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:18).

What is the Way out? Jesus said, “I am the way…” (John 14:6). It is the Way of the cross and all Jesus accomplished there. He paid the penalty and took the punishment for our sin (Isaiah 53:6; Hebrews (9:26; I Peter 3:18) and then rose on the 3rd day proving Himself to be the Son of God (Romans 1:4). Jesus sets us free (John 8:31-36; Romans 6:22-23; Galatians 5:13).

Carl heard about the way out of his imprisonment to sin, Satan and death. When he heard about what Jesus had done to free him, he accepted the free gift of eternal life. His sins were forgiven and he was no longer guilty before God. He was free to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and that is what he did (Galatians 5:13).

Dear Father, thank you for freeing me from the power of sin, Satan and death. Out of loving gratitude may I be the person You desire me to be and to serve You according to Your plan for my life. May it be so in the authority of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
