LOVING OBEDIENCE BRINGS BLESSING, DISOBEDIENCE CONSEQUENCES

Then Jeremiah said to the family of the Rekabites, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed the command of your forefather Jehonadab and have followed all his instructions and have done everything he ordered.’ Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me.’” —Jeremiah 35:18-19

Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe’s knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes. —Jeremiah 36:23-24

Our Lord God Almighty said through Samuel— “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams” (I Samuel 15:22).  Because of the obedience, “Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me.”  Submissive obedience brings blessings.  What is our Lord desiring of you?  Will you lovingly submit His will and obey?

When Jehoiakim king of Judah did not heed the Word of God he heard, he bought judgment on himself and descendants—

“Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on the throne of David; his body will be thrown out and exposed to the heat by day and the frost by night. I will punish him and his children and his attendants for their wickedness; I will bring on them and those living in Jerusalem and the people of Judah every disaster I pronounced against them, because they have not listened.’” —Jeremiah 36:30-31

Our Lord God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, is not some puppet that we can manipulate to do our will.  No, instead, we are to lovingly obey His will.  “Your will be done” (Matthew 6:10) and “Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that’” (James 4:15).  Yes, loving, submissive obedience brings blessing while rebellious disobedience brings consequences.  Which will we choose?

Dear Father, may I seek to lovingly be submissive and obedient to Your will.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  Yes, so may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4dprjHfMDY&list=RDr4dprjHfMDY&start_radio=1
