CORRUPTION
Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent. —Deuteronomy 16:19
How often do we see this in today’s world or, really, any time in history. People take bribes to pervert justice, show partiality, have their eyes blinded and twist the words of the innocent. In our U.S government bribes are called “pork” or “earmarks.” These are amendments that someone wants to add to a bill to get something they want and they won’t vote for a bill unless it is added to that bill. This is bribery and yet it is accepted practice among government officials!
Is it any wonder that our government is filled with waste and fraud! Our government is supposed to be for the people and by the people. Many times it is a far cry from that. Government, too often, is not for the people but for itself and disregards the people as a whole. So many times, these bribes (“pork” or “earmarks”) are for a small segment of our society and are attached to bills. It is a wicked practice used to get one’s way— bribery!
Please help me to live—
- Justly
- Without partiality
- Without bribery
- Without blind eyes
- Without twisting the words of the innocent
Dear Father, may You be pleased to expose bribery in our government and other places, including my own life, that justice would be without partiality.
