DON’T FEAR BUT BE FAITHFUL TO THE MISSION OF JESUS
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” —Matthew 28:5-7
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” —Matthew 28:10
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” —Matthew 28:16-20
The angel present at the empty tomb, after Jesus rose from the dead, said to the women—- “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
The women were obedient and were going as the angel commanded them and Jesus Himself appeared to the women. He said, “, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” So, the message from the angel and also from Jesus was “to go to Galilee; there they will see (Him)/me.”
Well, the disciples must have gotten the message because—
“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
So, the disciples went to Galilee as they were told and there they saw Jesus and—
- They worshiped Him when they saw Him
- Some of the disciples had doubts when they saw Him
- He told them that all authority in heaven has been given Him
- He told them that all authority on earth has been given Him
- He told them to go or as they are going, to make disciples of all nations
- He told them to baptized these disciples “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
- He told them to teach these disciples “to obey everything I have commanded you
- He told them that “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
