HARD THINGS WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND— TRUST GOD FOR THEM

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”  In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. —Job 1:20-22

Elaine and I were walking on the beach the other day and happened to overhear one woman say to another— “I can’t believe it after everything I have done for you.”  Not sure what the issue there was, but there surely was some conflict.

In this life, in this fallen world, there are many things we do not understand why they happen like they do.

  • Why do expectant moms have miscarries?
  • How come I was the only one that was laid off from our workplace?
  • What reason is there that I got diagnosed with this health issue?
  • For what purpose is there that a young person dies in an accident?
  • Why was it that my house burnt to the ground?
  • How come this terror group is slaughtering Christians with little or no accountability?
  • What motivates someone to rob or kill?

The list goes on as to all the brokenness in our world and the destruction that follows it.  We would like to have answers to so many things, but they evade us.  Why me?  Have you ever asked that question?  But the answer, brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, may never come in this life.  This is where I need to trust Him.  We need to say with Job— “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”  In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing” (Job 1:21-22).  Surely, Job did not understand the reason(s) behind His suffering and loss, but he still worshipped our Lord God Almighty and “did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.”

How many people would say, “If God were a loving God, this would not be happening?”  We live, as mentioned before, in an utterly broken world.  The sin and death that entered the human race upon Adam & Eve’s disobedience has permeated and mushroomed to what we have today— so much brokenness and sadness because of it.  But let us trust our Lord as Job did— not that he didn’t have questions, because he did.  Yet, his understanding of God’s plans was flawed.  He said, “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?  I put my hand over my mouth.  I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more” (Job 40:4-5).  There are times we just need to be quiet before our Lord God Almighty and trust Him to work out what He desires.  Yes, there are times we need to “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).  He will accomplish what He desires in and through the earth, the nations and our lives.  Trust Him!  Yes, Dear Father may I trust You with those things I do not understand.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXXeawzLcgc&list=RDDXXeawzLcgc&start_radio=1
