LOOK IN FAITH/BELIEF!

LOOK IN FAITH/BELIEF!

They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”  Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.  The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived. —Numbers 21:4-9

            As the Israelites traveled—

  • They grew impatient on the way
  • They spoke against God
  • They spoke against Moses
  • They said God & Moses brought them into the wilderness to die
  • They said there was no bread
  • They said there was no water
  • They detested the manna God had given them to eat daily
  • They called the manna God had given to them miserable food

Result of the Israelites complaints—

  • The Lord sent venomous snakes among them
  • The snakes bit the people
  • The snake bites caused the death of many Israelites
  • The people came to Moses
  • The people acknowledged they sinned against the Lord
  • The people acknowledged they sinned against
  • The people asked Moses to pray the Lord would take away the snakes
  • The people were prayed for by Moses
  • The Lord told Moses to “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
  • The bronze snake was made by Moses in obedience
  • The snake was out on a pole in obedience
  • The people that looked at the snake on the pole after being bitten lived

This historical incident is shared by Jesus with Nicodemus in John 3:14-15 when He said, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”  So, just as the people looked to the bronze snake in belief did not die of the snake bite, so also those who look to Jesus in belief will not die but have eternal life.

Instead of dying in our complaints we need to look to Jesus for eternal life.  Oh, Dear Father, may those reading this who have not looked to Jesus to be saved from Satan’s sinful snake bit look to Jesus to not die, but have eternal life.  Yes, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWYSyDZYIg
