ONLY ONE SOVEREIGN!
ONLY ONE SOVEREIGN!
I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.” —Daniel 6:26-27
There were those who hated Daniel because of the king desiring to promote him to a high leadership position. Daniel was distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps and King Darius planned to set him over the whole kingdom (Daniel 6:2-3). Those against him set a trap, manipulating the king into signing a decree that none could petition any other, but only the king for 30 Days (Daniel 6:7-8). They knew Daniel had a practice of praying three times each day and that was the only way they could snare him— “When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously” (Daniel 6:10).
Yes, they thought they had trapped Daniel. They reported him to the king for praying and, greatly disturbed that the law could not be broken, the king sought a way out for Daniel, but there was none. Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den and the king fasted and could not sleep all night. He went at dawn to the lions’ den and called out to Daniel. Daniel responded that “My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm” (Daniel 6:22).
Instead of the plan to have Daniel killed, those who planned such were thrown into the lions’ den themselves and met their demise. The king said, “I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.” And “So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.”
