WE WILL SOON BE GONE FROM THIS EARTH— BE READY!
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers…. For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. —Psalm 90:2-6, 9-10
How hard it is to understand that God has always been. Before the earth or universe were formed, God has been eternally existing. Wow… does that raise many questions like, simply, what was He doing for all eternity past? It makes all of us who know Jesus wonder what we will be doing for all eternity. One thing is for sure, whatever we will be doing, Jesus will be there and everything will be astoundingly wonderful!
Eternity… Elaine and I were just mentioning how quickly summer is passing by. In eternity we will not be saying that ever again! We will be with Jesus soon— all those of us who have called on His Name. Life is so short. It might not seem that way when a person is young. But oh, does it pass fast! These bodies grow old and we will return to dust… Wow… isn’t that an exciting thought, except for those of us who know Jesus to be absent from the body (death) is to present with the Lord (II Corinthians 5:8). That is exciting!
Still, our life here passes by quickly. We like those swept away quickly by a flood. Our years are but a dream quickly gone. We are also like grass that soon withers or like a sigh… sigh and you’re gone… If we reach 70 years of age, that is great! If by reason of strength we reach 80 years of age that is wonderful. As of November of 2023, I read that the average lifespan of men is about 75 years, women 80 years— the average overall is about 77.5 years. If you have called on Jesus, live in such a way as to one day hear those words from Jesus— “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). We will soon be gone… be ready! Yes, Dear Father, help us to live for You that we might hear those words— “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
