DEATH IS COMING TO ALL— SPEAK THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS TO THEM!
DEATH IS COMING TO ALL— SPEAK THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS TO THEM!
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. —Psalm 89:1
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them. —Psalm 89:11
What man can live and never see death? —Psalm 89:48
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. 18 Romans 10:13-17
Our Lord is faithful, mankind is not. Our Lord has steadfast love. His love and faithfulness go to all generations. Those in each generation should acknowledge that “The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.” Without acknowledging this basic foundation, it will be hard for a person to call on Jesus to be saved because God has said in Psalm 19:1-4 that “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” This message is available to all to acknowledge. But there are people “who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:18-20).
People can deny that God has created everything that is seen and unseen, but one truth they cannot deny is that every person is moving toward death at some point in their life. People need to “come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26). Most people do not think of death, or at least they do not very often unless someone dies close to them or they hear about someone dying. But usually, it is a fleeting time of thinking about it. They go on with their normal lives.
BUT… EVERYONE WILL DIE! And then what? I was talking with a young man recently and I asked him if he understood what Jesus did on the cross for him. He said, “I know that He died on the cross for our sins, but what does that mean?” So, we had an opportunity to talk about that— about God’s love, being made right with God and the judgment to come. He left with a Gospel of John and said he was going to read it. I hope to connect with him again soon over coffee for further dialogue. This young man had been thinking about these things and said, “Thank you, I needed to hear this today.”
Brothers and sisters, fellow followers of Jesus, I read that “166,997 people die each day in the world, that is 6,958 per hour, 116 per minute, and nearly 2 per second.” Those are probably old statistics by now. It may be up to around 180,000 people per day that die. So, how will they hear unless we, who have been sent (John 17:18), tell them. Do you have beautiful feet— feet that bring the good news about Jesus to others? May it be so and may it be all for the glory of God! Let’s speak Jesus to people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmqSfr1ENY
Dear Father, may we all bring the good news about Jesus to others before they die or we die. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6khv6pGkw&t=16s
