THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD!
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not part of my flock. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” —John 10:24-33
There are some who just won’t believe Jesus no matter how many times He tells them, or someone else tells them Who He is. He could not more plainly tell them through the words and works He was doing. Jesus said, “The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not part of my flock. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” Jesus is saying—
- He is doing this works in His Father’s authority
- These works He is doing are a witness as to Who Jesus is
- Those not His sheep will not hear Him
- Those who are His sheep hear Him
- Those who are His sheep are known by Him
- Those who are His sheep follow Him
- Those who are His sheep are given eternal life by Jesus
- Those who are His sheep will never perish
- Those who are His sheep cannot be snatched from His hand by anyone
- Those who are His sheep are given to Him by His Father
- Those who are His sheep cannot be snatched from His Father’s hand
- Jesus and His Father are One
At the saying, “I and my Father are One,” the Jews picked up stones to stone Him. They said they were going to stone Him, not for the works He had done, but “for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” They wanted to know “plainly” and now that there is no doubt, they want to kill Him for telling them plainly. They knew what Jesus was saying, but they would not believe… no matter how many times He told them and they would not accept the testimony of the works He was doing. Some just will not believe!
