REJOICING OR MOANING ACCORDING TO WHO IS IN AUTHORITY
The God of Israel has spoken; the Rock of Israel has said to me: When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God, he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth. —II Samuel 23:3-4
Those who rule “justly over men, ruling in the fear of God, he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.” What a joy to see—
- The dawning of the morning light.
- The sun shining on a cloudless morning.
- The rain that makes the grass grow.
These three things bring joy. Think of all the people that have ever looked at a sunrise as a new day begins. Oh, how we love the beauty of a sunrise at the beginning of a day! And then to have the sun shine forth in its strength, not impeded by clouds. The warmth of the rays warms our hearts. Then there is the rain that causes the grass to grow. We are in Spring here in New Hampshire, U.S.A and the grass is growing and becoming greener with the rain. New life, even grass, brings joy.
“When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan’ (Proverbs 29:2). Yes, how true this is. People rejoice when there is one in authority who lives according to godly ways. Oh, but it is also true that people groan when the wicked are in authority. The wicked only desire their wicked ways and do not really care about the people. They only selfishly desire their own ways.
Look around the world. Where are the people groaning? I would dare say they are groaning in every nation as ungodly people are in authority. What a ray of joy, a cloudless comfort and a healthy growth when the godly are in office. But the darkness of night, the gray of day occurs when unhealthy, godless people are in power. Oh, how true this is!
But, brothers and sisters, fellow followers of Jesus, there is a new day coming that will dawn and the brightness of light will shine forth immensely into perfect health. Jesus will bring that new day in. We know the end of the story of this age. Let us rejoice in the expectation of that coming day. Yes, Dear Father, may we not be discouraged at this present time, but look forward to the new day coming. In the meantime, may I serve You faithfully in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Dear Son Jesus. So may it be all for Your honor and glory! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3YGczmlbV8
