DO GOD’S WILL
DO GOD’S WILL
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” —Matthew 7:21-27
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” —John 3:14-15
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” —John 6:40
Works in themselves accomplishes nothing. Saying “Lord, Lord” by itself means nothing. In James we read “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. It is not just knowing about Jesus that saves someone. It is knowing Jesus that saves someone and then works follow giving evidence of that faith. Just because one has works, does not mean they have truly believed in Jesus. To do the will of our Father is to look to His Son and believe. It is just as those who were bitten by snakes in the wilderness— when they were bitten they were to look at the bronze snake on the pole Moses that was told to make by God. When they looked they would be healed and not die (Numbers 21:4-9). So, we are told that if we look to the lifted up Jesus (the finished work at the cross) and believe then we will have eternal life!
Belief in Jesus, a relationship with Him, is all that is needed to have eternal life. Then we have a desire, as “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10), to serve Him as He desires. We know “it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesian 2:8-9).
So,
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Be a wise man and listen to what Jesus is saying and then do what He is saying. Yes, that is the wise man. The foolish man listens to what Jesus is saying as well, but He does not put it into practice. Just doing without believing is foolish and so is just hearing without doing is foolish. We need to hear what He desires and then do what He desires! Oh, may that be us! Yes, Dear Father may we just not be a hearer, or just be a doer— may we be both a hearer and then a doer of what we have heard. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus, my Lord. So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxqHo2Pvfm0&list=RDQANH8MWuyaE&index=4
