Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. —Isaiah 49:15-16
“Can a woman forget her nursing child?” You would think not, but if a woman is calloused, irresponsible and outright wicked then she could “have no compassion on the son of her womb?” There are those women who neglect their child and want to forget they had them. They do not want to care for them. They have no compassion on them. How many stories have we heard about children left to die on their own— thrown out like trash in a dumpster?
Abortion is surely in this line of having no compassion, wanting to forget the child in the womb and killing the child as if there would be no memory. But the scare on the mind will be forever there. One cannot forget.
Even if a woman is lacking compassion, responsibility and is calloused and wicked, forgetting her child… our Lord God Almighty would never, ever forget His children. He will not neglect them, but He will have compassion on them. He has engraved His children on the palms of His hands! Think about that.
A friend I was with yesterday was writing notes on his hands to remember something he did not want to forget. That is what our Lord has done for each of His children. They are engraved on His hand and he will not forget them… ever. You who have called on the Lord, fellow follower of Jesus, your name is engraved on His hand! He will never forget you. Wow… Dear Father I am so grateful that You will never forget me and that You have my best interests in mind. Out of loving gratitude may I be faithful to what You desire me to be and do by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So may it be.
