GOD’S WORD IS THE AUTHORITY, NOT MAN’S TRADITIONS
Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. —Mark 1:30
Beware of the traditions of men. Our authority is fully on the written Word of God. Anything that is contrary to the Word of God is of man’s tradition. Which will you put your trust in? The traditions of men or the Word of God? Remember that Jesus said that “you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that” (Mark 7:13). Man’s traditions nullify/ cancels/ voids/ make none effect/ invalidates/ revokes/ ignores/ destroys/sets aside the Word of God. Traditions adhere to man’s authority while the Word of God is exactly that— God’s Word which is final authority! Now let me ask you, which are you following?
Even in the Catholic version of the Bible, Mark 1:30 says, “Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her.” So, if Simon (Peter) had a “mother-in-law” that would mean that Peter was married. The Catholic church claims Peter was the first pope and yet he was married. Today, and apparently since the 11th century, popes are not allowed to marry, neither are priests. This is fully a human tradition. Actually, God’s Word goes further than just saying this is a tradition of men. God’s Word says this forbidding to marry is one of the—
“Things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.” —I Timothy 4:2-3
So, the tradition to not allow marriage and to forbid eating certain foods comes through hypocritical liars and they need to come to “senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26). Satan is involved with traditions, encouraging these traditions to be the authority rather than the Word of God.
Dear Father, please help us to adhere to Your Word and not that of man. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Precious Son Jesus. So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0a9T0UtJBQ&list=RDY0a9T0UtJBQ&start_radio=1
