DON’T LIFE AN idyllic LIFE
“Do not make any idols.” —Exodus 34:17
For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him. —Matthew 27:18
From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. —Psalm 33:13-15
Do you or I have any idols in our lives? Are our self-interests top priority or are the Lord’s desires what we focus on? “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.” Nothing escapes our Lord notice. He sees all. He knows it all. And you and I will give an account to Him as to the way we live— “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (II Corinthians 5:10). Thankfully there is no condemnation in the follower of Jesus’ future because Jesus took that punishment for us at the cross. But or those who do not know Him—
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” —Revelation 20:11-15
