WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS…
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” —Matthew 16:13-16
This is a great question! It is concise, direct and demands an answer. “Who do you say I am?” The importance of this question is demanding that you answer. It is secondary what other people think, what matters is what you think. Other people got it wrong about who Jesus is. When Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” The answers were—- “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Even today people get it wrong about who Jesus is. There are multitudes that would say that Jesus was a prophet. The problem with those with that answer is that they are all completely wrong. Jesus is more than a prophet.
When Jesus said to His disciples, “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered correctly, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to Peter, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 16:17). Nobody can come to the right conclusion as to who Jesus is because “”No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them” (John 6:44).
Are you a follower of Jesus? You are only so because His Father drew You to Jesus and give “joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:12-13). God has done this for every follower of Jesus! Rejoice!
Who do you say Jesus is? Oh, that you would give the correct answer and know that it was God that enlightened you to give that correct answer. Now live for Him by the power of His Holy Spirit and in the authority of His Son Jesus. Yes, and all for His honor and glory!
