LIFE ON EARTH IS SHORT— LOOK TO JESUS!
“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you. —Psalm 39:4-7
When we are young it seems like life’s span is so long, but as we get older we realize how short life is on this planet. Indeed, “let me know how fleeting my life is.” How fleeting is it? A handbreadth is the width of your palm or four fingers. That is about three to four inches. Look at your palm right now. That, my fellow human, is how quickly life passes. Life is also like a breath. Actually, the whole human race is but a breath. It matters not who you are— how insecure you are or how secure you are. Take one breath— that is how short your life is. And… whatever we gather on earth will be left on earth. That is just how it is! And… death is not a respecter of persons!
“Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10). If you are in your 20’s reading this, you may think, wow, that is a long way off. But let me assure you— it is not. Live life for the Lord now. Seek to honor Him now and do that for the rest of your life. If you do, you will have no… or fewer… regrets.
This should be our prayer at any age— “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17). Without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). So keep abiding in Jesus— being and doing what He desires. He has work for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). He has marked out a race for you to run. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and run the race with perseverance (Hebrews 12:1-2). Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWYSyDZYIg&list=RDEqWYSyDZYIg&start_radio=1
