TO LOVE GOD AND OTHERS IS TO BE OBEDIENT TO GOD

I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. —II John 1:5-6

 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. —II John 9

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. —III John 1:4

             There is no greater joy than seeing our own physical children “walking in the truth” and so also those who are our “spiritual” children.  Fruitfulness for our Lord results as we persevere and “whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.”  Continuation is evidence and Jesus said, ““If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

             Obedience to God’s commands, to His Word, is to walk in love.  And to walk in love is to be obedient to His commands, His Word.  Also—

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” —I John 5:1-5
