CALLED TO BE WITNESSES/DISCIPLE-MAKERS

CALLED TO BE WITNESSES/DISCIPLE-MAKERS

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:8

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) … —Acts 1:15

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.  Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. —Acts 2:1-5

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. —Acts 2:21

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. —Acts 2:41-42

The power to be a witness/disciple-maker of Jesus comes from being empowered by God’s Holy Spirit.  Holy Spirit empowered witnesses/disciple-makers have a world view and not just a local vision.  Jesus has a world view, a view of reaching the world with the “gospel of the kingdom,” making disciples (Matthew 24:14; 28:16-20).

Immediately, at Pentecost when people from every nation were gathered in Jerusalem, when the Holy Spirit came on the believers, Peter spoke.  People had heard the followers of Jesus praising God in their own languages.  It was at this moment that Peter lifted up the Name of Jesus and explained what was going on in fulfillment of God’s prophetic Word.  After Hearing Peter saying that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved… Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.  They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

These new believers were devoted to, committed themselves to (Acts 2:42-47) —

  1. The Word of God
  2. Gathering together often
  3. Celebrating meals and the Lord’s Table together
  4. Prayer
  5. Meeting the needs among them
  6. Praising God
  7. The salvation of others

This is what a Spirit empowered life will look like, be committed to.  Are you and I living in the Holy Spirit’s power?  How are we doing in these seven areas?  Dear Father, please help me to grow in these areas.  Yes, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be and all for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmqSfr1ENY&list=RDPcmqSfr1ENY&start_radio=1
