EXPECTED TO BEAR FRUIT IN JESUS

EXPECTED TO BEAR FRUIT IN JESUS

The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. —Matthew 3:10

Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ —Matthew 4:4

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” —Matthew 4:19

First, are you producing fruit in your life? — “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives” (Proverbs 11:30).  Fruit… that includes people responding to the gospel which means we need to be sharing it or involved in “fishing.”  Jesus did say to those following Him— “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”  And in Acts 1:8 we read— “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Then there is the “fruit of the Spirit” which “is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).  This fruit can only occur as we feed upon the Word of God since “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”  We need both physical food and spiritual food to be able to produce fruit.  The Word of God is used by the Spirit of God to help us be more like the Son of God for the glory of God our Father.  So, may we be fruit-bearers for His honor and glory.  Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” —John 15:5
