FORGIVEN!

FORGIVEN!

For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. —Psalm 25:11

Do you understand how “great” sin is?  How great is my sin and how great is your sin?  The ESV says, “For your name’s sake, O LORD, pardon my guilt, for it is great.”  We need to be forgiven/pardoned.  The Psalmist is not just thinking about the past either.  David, as a follower of our Lord, failed miserably in sinful activity as a believer and yet our Lord God Almighty, not only forgave His past sins, but also His present sins.  Many believers of the past failed and sinned as followers of our Lord, but He forgave them.

One sin is enough to keep us out of heaven if it is not cleansed by the blood of Christ.  But ponder this, Jesus “is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2).  Jesus already atoned for every sin of everyone— past, present and future.  So now, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).  And, when a person calls on Jesus, He says—

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” —John 10:27-30

If we have the “faith of Abraham” (Romans chapter 4), then all our sin— past, present and future is forgiven and as David says—

“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them” (Romans 4:7-8).

Paul was accused of saying, since we are forgiven, we can do whatever we want.  “Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say— “Let us do evil that good may result”?  Their condemnation is just!” (Romans 3:8).  Oh, of course this is not the case as Paul says— “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” (Romans 6:1-2).  Our desire is that we do not sin and what a glory that will be in heaven when we will sin no more.  But now, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9).  Paise God that we are safe and secure in Him forever.  Oh, that we would seek to serve Him faithfully, but when we do sin, let us confess and continue to run the race He has marked out for us (Hebrews 12:1-2)— “the righteous fall seven times, they rise again” (Proverbs 24:16).  Thank You, Dear Father, for Your forgiveness and pardon by the power of Your Holy Spirit and by the atoning sacrifice of Your Son Jesus.  Oh, that I would now live faithfully for You.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_ZWEO36jok&list=RDu_ZWEO36jok&start_radio=1
