LISTEN YOU NATIONS— OUR LORD IS SOVEREIGN!
“Hear the word of the Lord, you nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: ‘He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.’ For the Lord will deliver Jacob and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they. —Jeremiah 31:10-11
This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord Almighty is his name: “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the Lord, “will Israel ever cease being a nation before me.” declares the Lord. This is what the Lord says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the LORD. —Jeremiah 31:35-37
Israel is about the size of New Jersey and has a population of about 9.7 million whereas New Jersey’s population is about 9.3 million. Why does it still exist with all those who seek to annihilate it? Well, the answer is that “the Lord will deliver Jacob and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they.” There are many who are more powerful than Israel, but it is the Lord that keeps it in existence. In reality, the same could be said about any nation because it is the Sovereign Lord God Almighty who “changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21). He also appoints people “over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:10). No nation is outside His plans and purposes and He will guide the according to His will, regardless of how big or small they are.

So, Israel will cease to exist if:
- The sun does not shine anymore
- The moon does not shine anymore
- The waves of the sea cease
- The heavens can be measured
- The foundation of the earth below can be searched out
If any of these happen then our Lord will reject the descendants of Israel and they will cease to be a nation, a people. As far as I know these are all still true which means Israel’s existence will continue. It is true, Dear Father, that You raise up nations and You put nations down. They come into existence because of Your purposes and so too they cease to exist. I am grateful to know that You are Sovereign over all.
