HE IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL

HE IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL

He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’  So that everyone he has made may know his work, he stops all people from their labor.  The animals take cover; they remain in their dens.   The tempest comes out from its chamber, the cold from the driving winds.  The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.  He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them.  At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.  He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love. —Job 37:6-13

Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?  They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow…  blessed is the people whose God is the Lord. —Psalm 144:3-4, 15

Our lives are only like a breath.  Take a breath… let it out.  That is how quickly our lives pass here on earth in this age.  I can attest to that at age 70.  70?  How did I get here so fast?  Our lives are also like a fleeting shadow.  Shadows don’t last very long before they fade into the inky blackness of night.  So we too soon fade from this life.

How grateful to know Jesus and His care for us— proven at the cross, His resurrection, His ascension and the promise of coming back if we do not die first to be with Him.  Yes, “We love because he first loved us” (I John 4:19) and “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us….” (I John 3:16).

But we have many “why” questions.  We don’t understand so much— only what He reveals to us in His Word.  Like storms— why do they happen?  It is clear…

  • He orders the snow to fall on the earth
  • He orders the mighty downpour of rain
  • He wants people to understand this is His work
  • He stills people from their labor when it storms
  • He causes water to freeze over
  • He causes the lightning
  • He directs the cloud movement

What is all the purpose in this?  He sums it up this way— “He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.”  For this passage we see that storms come to—

  • For people to understand His work
  • For people to be stilled from their work
  • For people to be punished
  • For people to have water on His earth
  • For Him to show His love

In Storms, our Lord God Almighty can do and accomplish a variety of things.  Snowstorms, ice storms, hailstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, extreme heat or cold still men from their work… are used as punishment by God… are used to water His earth… are used to show His love.

Dear Father, please help me to be more understanding of these things with the brief time I have left.  I am grateful to know that all things are under Your Sovereign control.  That is comforting to know.  Now, may I faithfully live out what You desire of me by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  Yes, so may this be and all for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of others.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsQmsEE_2-s
