REDEEMED BY AND GIVEN GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS

REDEEMED BY AND GIVEN GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS

“May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” —Ruth 2:12

“Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family.” —Ruth 3:9

All who have called on Jesus are “under His wings.”  You, no doubt, heard about the hen that was caught in a barn fire and died.  In the aftermath, as the farmer was walking through the smoldering debris, he saw the hen and moved it over with his boot.  Upon moving it he saw all the chicks underneath it were still living.  The hen had protected them by giving its life and the chicks found safe refuge under the hen’s wings.

So too, we have found safe refuge in Jesus.  Just as Ruth asked Boaz to “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family,” so also Jesus has “spread” His righteousness in redemption to those who have called on His Name.  “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13) and “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (II Corinthians 5:21).  Surely, “you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (I Peter 1:18-19).  So let us rejoice!

Dear Father, thank You for all You have done for me through Jesus.  And now may I live faithfully for You by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  Yes, so may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Euu6G7cRMzs
