THE WISE AND THE FOOL
THE WISE AND THE FOOL
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. —Psalms 14:1-3
God says of the fool—
- They say in their heart, “There is no God.”
- They are corrupt
- They do vile deeds
- They do no good
- They do not understand
- They do not seek God
- They have turned away
God also contrasts the wise with the wicked/fool—
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” —Psalms 1
The wise man—
- Does not walk in step with the wicked
- Does not stand in the way sinners take
- Does not sit in the company of mockers
- Delights in the Word of God
- Meditates on the Word of God, day and night
- Is like a tree planted by streams of water
- Yields fruit in season
- Leaf does not wither
- Prospers in all his ways
The wicked/fool—
- Are like chaff blown away by the wind
- Will not stand in judgment
- Will not stand in the assembly of the righteous
- His way leads to destruction
So, which are you? Oh, may you be a wise man that build his house on the rock and not the foolish man who built his house on the sand. Yes, Father, may all we reading this seek to be wise by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So may it be!
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” —Matthew 7:24-27
