THE DEVIL’S ENTRAPMENT OF MAN

For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd. —Zechariah 10:2

            Think of this—

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” —John 1:1-3

            Then this—

“The Son (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.” —Colossians 1:15-16

And this—

“On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.” —Hebrews 1:1-2

            He makes all other gods nonsense.  Why would people follow false gods—gods of their own making?  Why not follow Him who created all things? —

“Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.  But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.  They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.  They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.  They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats.  Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.” —Psalm 115:3-8

            When people follow their own gods they “wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd.”  They do not know their true purpose in life for which they were made which is to—

“ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:37-40

            We are to be in relationship with “the only true God, and Jesus Christ” (John 17:3).   It is utter nonsense to follow after any other person or some “religious” system.  Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).  And we read about Jesus in Acts 4:13 that “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

So why do people not believe in Jesus?  It is because they need to “be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:25-26).  So let us go to them and share the good news about Jesus.   Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6khv6pGkw   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLDEt9KP2O0
