A DISCIPLE OF JESUS!

A DISCIPLE OF JESUS!

The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of discipleship, to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. —Isaiah 50:4

Disciples of Jesus, that is what we are called to be.  Too many times people turn out to be a disciple of this personality or that personality or of this denomination or that denomination or of this local church or that local church.  We need to make sure that we are a disciple of Jesus and listening and learning from what He has to say to us.  Is my faith in Jesus or is it in this personality or that personality or of this denomination or that denomination or of this local church or that local church?  Where or who are you putting your faith in and who are you sharing your faith with?  DMMM_59_Following Jesus 7-2-24.mp3

Jesus calls people to follow Him (Matthew 4:19; Matthew 10:38; Mark 2:14; 8:34; Luke 9:59; John 8:22; 10:27; 12:26).  These are just a few verses, but there are many other verses that speak to following Jesus.  Do we desire people to follow Jesus or to follow ourselves or this personality or that personality or of this denomination or that denomination or of this local church or that local church?

I love where Paul shares the message with the Bereans—

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.” —Acts 127:11-12

What do we learn from this brief passage of God’s Word?

  • The Berean Jews were of noble character
  • They received the message with great eagerness
  • They examined the Scriptures every day
  • They wanted to check for themselves if what Paul was saying was true
  • This resulted in many of them believing the message
  • A number of prominent Greek women also believed
  • A number of prominent Greek men also believed

These people searched out the Truth for themselves after hearing what Paul said.  They did not just take Paul’s word that it was true.  They saw the Truth in God’s Word for themselves and many then believed.  This surely thrilled Paul as he saw them search out the Truth themselves and not just take his word for it.  This is what we desire for people.  We do not want them to believe only because we say it, we want them to see the truth for themselves!  He wanted them to be followers of Jesus, disciples of Jesus.  Oh, that we and they would understand that “The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of discipleship, to sustain the weary with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.”  Oh, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  Yes, may this be so and all for Your honor and glory! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW5gPRlmd-c
