No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” —Isaiah 44:19
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish, who confirms the word of his servant and fulfills the counsel of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They shall be built, and I will raise up their ruins’; who says to the deep, ‘Be dry; I will dry up your rivers’; who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd, and he shall fulfill all my purpose’; saying of Jerusalem, ‘She shall be built,’ and of the temple, ‘Your foundation shall be laid.’” —Isaiah 44:24-28
The knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. —Colossians 2:2-3
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. —Colossians 2:13-14
There is no God, no authority higher than He and no Savior other than Him. Nobody can deliver from His hand and nobody can resist the work He desires to do. He is our Lord, our King, our Redeemer, the Lord of hosts, the First and the Last, the only Rock and we are His witnesses.
There are those who make idols for themselves. These idols are not just blocks of wood that people burn half of to cook their meal and the other half to make a god to bow down and worship. No, men have all kinds of idols that they worship— money, power, people, climate, animals… and themselves as people desire to be the god of their own lives, captains of their own ship, determiners of their own destiny. How foolish! They lack knowledge and discernment.
Yes, our Lord is—
- Our Redeemer
- The one who forms life in the womb
- The Creator
- The One who frustrates the signs of liars
- The One who makes fools of diviners
- The One who turns wise men back, making their knowledge foolish
- The One who confirms the word of His servant
- The One who confirms the counsel of His messengers
- The One who decides Jerusalem will be inhabited
- The One who decides the cities of Judah will be built from ruins
- The One who can dry up the rivers
- The One who works through unsaved King Cyrus to shepherd His purpose
- The One who purposes Cyrus to build Jerusalem
- The One who purposes Cyrus to build the temple
- The One who is the “the knowledge of God’s mystery”
- The One in who are hidden all the treasures of wisdom
- The One in who are hidden all the treasures of knowledge
- The One who has made us alive
- The One who has forgiven us all our trespasses/sins
- The One who has canceled our debt
- The One who nail our debt to the cross
