YOU ARE CHILDREN OF LIGHT, NOT DARKNESS
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. —Ephesians 5:6-12
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. —Ephesians 5:15-17
As followers of Jesus we are to discern and understand what the will of God is— to be and do what is pleasing to Him. We are not to take part in what the “sons of disobedience” are doing. We are no longer in darkness or under the wrath of God. No, instead, we are to “Walk as children of light.” And “the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true.” We are not to take part in what is bad, wrong and false. Instead, we are to expose them! This is very clear.
So, fellow followers of Jesus, brothers and sisters in Christ, let “no one deceive you with empty words.” Be careful in “how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” What was true in that day when this was written 2000 years ago, is surely true today. So let us “not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” We have His Word and so we have no excuse for not knowing His will and what pleases Him. May we be lovingly obedient to His desires. Yes, Dear Father, may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
