BEWARE! OUR LORD GOD ALMIGHTY WILL AVENGE!
O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth! Rise up, O judge of the earth; repay to the proud what they deserve! O LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult? They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. —Psalm 94:1-4
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. —Romans 11:33-36
Many puny men think they are almighty. Power hungry and power driven, they only think of themselves and their gain. They are proud and speak arrogant words. They are boastful evil doers. But… the judge of the earth knows all their ways and even though He is a God of love, He is also a God of judgment. He says, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay” (Deuteronomy 32:35; Romans 12:19; Hebrews 10:30). You can be sure that what He says, He will do. So, let us leave vengeance to Him. He knows best. The proud and arrogant, the self-exalting wicked, evildoers are not escaping our Lord God Almighties’ notice. He will judge in His time and you don’t want to be against Him!
We don’t know so much about Him, “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). We have His creation, His Word, His Son, His Holy Spirit and His Church. There is no excuse for anyone not to believe— “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). You have no excuse for not believing and living for our Lord God Almighty.
His ways and judgments are unsearchable. His riches, wisdom and knowledge are deep and without Him revealing these to us, we cannot understand Him. How can simple, insignificant people understand the mighty mind of our Lord? No man on earth could even begin to be His counselor. Man does not add anything to God. He is self-existent and needs nothing. He does not NEED me or NEED you! BUT… He created us and desires a relationship with us and has our best interest in mind. Now… “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’” (Romans). Or, “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”? (Isaiah 29:16). Or, “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’? (Isaiah 45:9). Man thinks he is wise, but compared to God, he is ignorant.
All things come from our Lord God Almighty and all things are for Him (Colossians 1:16). All glory is due His Name. We would be wise to “Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him” (Psalm 2:12).
